Eben Olesen

 *Spoilers* 30 Days of Night:

Barrow, Alaska is one of the most northern part in America, and in the middle of winter the town suffers from Polar Night, a month of darkness. Often most people leave the town however a few diehards stay for the period. They is no way of leaving the town when that sun goes down.

On the last day of daylight the local sheriff Eben Oleson (Josh Hartnett) has to investigate some unusual crimes which include stolen cellphones phones being burned and all the town sledge dogs being killed. Making it look like vandalism by local teenagers. However turns out differently.

Everything becomes clear when a group of vampires led by Marlowe (Danny Huston) enter town and use the darkness as a chance for a feeding frenzy. A group of surviving, including Eben, his younger brother Jake (Mark Rendall) and estranged wife Stella (Melissa George) have to hide and survive the hunting vampires.

Character of the Week is Eben Oleson. I actually re-watched 30 Days of Night last night. It being one of my favorite movies and all. I fell in love with Eben the first time I watched the movie. He was a leader, the good-guy looking out for all the other survivors and a Husband.

Despite the obvious marital issues between Eben and his wife Stella, he still manages to protect her. I'm a hopeless romantic. I loved how he was always looking out for Stella and the way he would look at her. I also loved the hero in him. Eben lived up to be a good sheriff in the little Alaskan town. He guided everyone to safety, he tried to store as much as food as possible, he put hope in the hearts of the worried and sacrificed everything in the end.

In the end, Eben sees his wife in trouble. She will burn if she stays, and they will kill her if she runs. So he sacrificed his life in the end, so she could live. As epic and sad that was to me, I liked the ending. It made his character that much more of a hero. I know, hopeless romantic?

(Billy turns and looks at Eben)
Sheriff Eben Oleson: Not Peggy, of course.

Stella Oleson: What?
Sheriff Eben Oleson: Stop the fucking truck!
(Stella stops and they get out)
Sheriff Eben Oleson: I thought I saw something.
(Stella looks through binoculars)
Stella Oleson: Get in the truck.
Sheriff Eben Oleson: What?
Stella Oleson: Get in the fucking truck!


Sheriff Eben Oleson: We`ll sleep in shifts. We`ll ration our food, and then we`ll figure out the next step. We have two advantages - we know this town, and we know the cold. We live here for a reason; because nobody else can.

Stella Oleson: I should have fought harder, kept Wilson here.
Sheriff Eben Oleson: It`s hard to stop someone when there family`s at stake. The things you`ll do to save your own.
Stella Oleson: We were like that once... weren`t we?

Eben Oleson: They're a block away, baby----we need to cut off before they hear you.

Eben clutches the walkie-talkie  like a lifeline...

Eben Oleson : I'll call you when it is safe. I love you. (He adds for the first time in a long time)

--- A pause, did Stella hear? 

Stella Oleson: I'm sorry baby----I shouldn't have ever left you. 

Stella Oleson: What did you do to yourself?
Sheriff Eben Oleson: What I had to. Should I go after them?
(Stella shakes her head)
Sheriff Eben Oleson: It`s almost dawn. We made it.
Stella Oleson: Eben... the dawn...

 

 

The Story Goes....

If you knew me, or for those who already know me...know that I have a big imagination......with everything. I love to get down and get creative. Think outside the box. I love writing stories. But most of all, I love movies. It started a long time ago, as a child, my parents would allow me and my younger Brother to stay up all night on weekends or summer vacation to watch movies. And there my friends is where my love for movies was born.

So I got older, and along with growing up started dating. Life changed for me and evolved. Well so did my passion for movies. It only grew stronger.  As I started dating my first love, Kris. We both grew this passion for movies. We both had similar taste, but we also had a tad bit different. Kris was more diverse and tried about anything. However I grew a passionate love for movies that were magical, that would take me to the place and emotionally pull me in. I started falling in love for characters and growing attached.

 My passion for movies grew stronger after we were married. Me and my Husband Kris begun putting all our collected movies in a bookshelf. Which eventually over time turned into seven bookshelves along two walls in our bedroom. And being honest, we are overdue for another shelf. That puts us at alittle over a thousand movies.

Movie nights are romantic and special to us. We both are critics who enjoy reviewing a movie for others. I also enjoy checking Rotten Tomatoes.   Which is a wonderful site to use, those who are passionate movie lovers. And watching movies or attending a movie is sacred to us. It comes with rituals. Peace and quiet during a movie and a whole lot of junk food. And that is the story folks. A little of the background for you good readers.


So the story goes, I'm writing a blog to give our reviews. Reviews for people who are passionate like me in movies. I have posted a list of my movies on my HomePage.


However I am also writing a Blog for Character of the Week. Which is dedicated to all those chracters who ever pulled me into a story, made me get attached, made me cry, laugh or made me love. And for those who made me miss them even after the movie or television series was long over. This will be for them. Each week I will post a character, what they played in, a BIO and why I appreciated them.

The actors or actresses have nothing to do with the characters I will be posting. It is simply for the fictional character.
